|Latter-day Saint tradition holds that the angel Gabriel is Noah of the Old Testament. It is fitting that the prophet who built the ark that saved the human race from annihilation should announce the coming of the Savior who would save all mankind from both spiritual and physical death. In the border we also find the rainbow reminding us of God's covenant; the dove representing Peace; herald angels; the olive branch and olive tree representing the Son and the Father and reminding us of Gethsemane. Most of all, I wanted to capture the wonder in Mary's face at the news, and the joy in Gabriel's at having the privilege of delivering this long anticipated message. Outside and inside text are excerpts taken from the KJV of the Holy Bible, St. Luke 1:32 and 33. This painting was completed and printed in 2008.
